BIOGRAPHY
The Wong Janice is a cellist and composer whose work embodies a singular philosophy: to be free. Through ambient cello music, she offers a profound invitation to release the mind's burdens, find liberation from suffering, and embrace the freedom to be truly oneself.
Her distinct sound is born from an immersive, improvised "flow" state, where conscious thought recedes and music is channeled through her as a vessel. Much like her passion for inline blading and speed skating, this deep trance requires full presence, allowing for an effortless glide of sound beyond traditional structures. This mastery of intuitive improvisation emerged from a journey that began as a classical cellist and marketing professional, transforming after a pivotal ten-day Vipassana silent meditation course. It was there she discovered the key to unlocking self-imposed shackles, realizing her purpose was to create music that helps others find stillness, healing, and the ultimate freedom of self-expression.
Janice's layered soundscapes, crafted with cello, effect pedals, and loop machines, invite deep introspection, guiding listeners inward. Her latest album, "Cello and Water Meditations: Music for the Tao," is a Grammy® Album for your consideration, and her overall Spotify catalog boasts over 73 million streams and counting. She also has 57,000 followers on the meditation app Insight Timer. Beyond numbers, she inspires profound personal shifts; numerous listeners who have been touched by her music's healing power, have been moved to pick up the cello themselves later in life, proving it's never too late to embrace a new path.
She has performed at prestigious events including TEDxAmsterdam, Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), and Down The Rabbit Hole, where she led a morning meditation with RY X and Michelle de Bruijn. Her innovative virtual cello meditation concerts during the pandemic were featured by Forbes and Lonely Planet, and her monthly live streams engage a global community of 500 attendees. Janice's biggest joy remains helping people worldwide connect to their inner peace and freedom through music.

Just a quick hello to say thank you for your incredible music during yesterday’s session. Way back when I did music as a subject at school... I’ve always loved music, but you have allowed me to reconnect with it deeper again. I’ve downloaded you material from Apple Music and loving it. All the best 🌺 Jeannette
- Jeannette from Melbourne, Au
Hi Janice, I had the privilege of attending your sound healing session with William last night and wanted to reach out and say a huge thank you! I’d never heard of cello meditation before; it was a really beautiful experience your music took me on a journey that resulted in me going into a deeply rested state which was much needed (you may not remember, but we had a brief chat about me falling into a relaxed/sleep state to track 3 haha). How did you get into it? It was beautiful! I’m looking to following your account and hopefully seeing some Melbourne events pop up in the future, as I would love to attend more! Thanks again 😊❤️

Many thnx for the wonderful experience, Janice. You really took us on an extremely relaxing, mind-soothing journey with your cello. Your instrument may resemble the human voice the most (as you told us), but I think it took us somewhere way more peaceful than where human voices can reach.
- eva from Amsterdam, NL
You have to experience this slice of heaven, so tranquil and serene. I will be listening and meditating to Janice's music for years to come. Feel honoured to have experienced this and such a great way to see the wellness side of Amsterdam. Please go and support this incredible performer and her beautiful music, you will leave floating out the door post tea and banana bread!!!
- Alice from UK
You immediately feel at home with Janice. you imagine yourself in a light house with high ceilings and a cello altar. I was invited with a delicious cup of tea at her kitchen table. after a good conversation I was invited to lie down on a yoga mat after which Janice started to play on her cello. With her music, Janice guides you in meditation. For an hour I was fully present in consciousness. This experience has given me various insights at the level of consciousness. I am very grateful for this.

Great for journaling. I rarely meditate to music but I love writing to it. It’s interesting what different pieces help bring forth. This brought forth forgiveness today. 🙏🙇♀️🌺

Wonderful, the music resonated in my soul and left my heart feeling like warm butter. I’ve been meditating most of the late afternoon and evening hoping that I’ll get some relief from the migraine but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. That’s when I put your music on and in my dark room I let the music flow through me and around me, and it brings me peace. I thank you so much for creating such amazing music that through the fog of pain there is still refuge. Maureen

Hearing such beautiful sounds, a little Haiku came to me:
For a few minutes
I have been in ecstasy
in a timeless place

I recently did a lot of forgiveness work energetically in my heart Chakra, and I felt like I wanted to release but I couldn’t. I just played your piece to soothe me to sleep and ended up bawling the whole way through. This was exactly what my heart needed. Thank you.
- Rachel
Your music is such a gift of soul. Thank you for sharing. I just purchased your new work on iTunes. Your offering is exquisite beauty.Thank you for this. I hope there is more to come. 🙏
- Christina from Lake Placid, NY, USA
The cello does touch my soul and this piece exceeds my every expectation.I used it as background to my morning gratitude journal... and embarked on a "soul journey", quite unexpected. Cleansing through tears, letting go of burdensome thought, and exalting in joy... simply by observing my universe from another window pane. Lovely.
- Patty from Redmond, Oregon, USA
I have always loved the sound of the cello since I was a little girl:) I have always found it so beautiful, but to listen to it during a a meditation I never imagined how it would then touch my soul💕 Thank you so much 🙏🙏
- Johanna from Edmonton, Ca
