BIOGRAPHY (ENGLISH FULL)
Janice Wong, better known as The Wong Janice is a meditation teacher and cellist based in Amsterdam in The Netherlands helping millions of people feel more centred and calm through deep ambient cello meditation music, sounding somewhere in between Zoe Keating, Hildur Guðnadóttir and David Darling. She spends her days recording and editing cello meditation music in her home studio, hosting virtual cello meditation concerts from her living room, and guiding people to find their inner peace through online courses.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, The Wong Janice began playing the cello at age 8, completing her classical training with a Licentiate Diploma of Music (L.Mus.A) at a young age of 18 and started working as a live session cellist and studio session cellist in multiple genres such as singer-songwriter, indie-folk, EDM and film soundtracks. Since moving to Amsterdam in 2010, she has scored notable performances with world-renowned artists Imogen Heap, Michael Kiwanuka and RY X as well as having performed in renowned Amsterdam venues such as Paradiso, Melkweg, Stadsschouwburg, The Royal Concertgebouw and multiple radio appearances on NPO Radio 3. In 2018 she graduated with an Advanced Diploma of Music Production and Sound Engineering at Abbey Road Institute to further her technical music skills and worked as Assistant Audio Engineer at Red Bull Studios Amsterdam.
In 2019 she decided to follow her dreams and compose her own music. By then, as meditation had become a huge part of her life, she realised they were the two things in her life that she wanted to practice and preach every single day. And if she could help herself and help others at the same time, then why not? With that, her solo cello meditation project was born. She released her debut album ‘Cello Music for Meditation’ and to complement, a unique live cello meditation concept: an intimate lie-down concert of deep ambient cello vibrations and sweeping cello melodies with her effect pedals and loop machine which led to sold-out shows in both The Netherlands and Australia and performances at TEDxAmsterdam and festivals such as Amsterdam Dance Event and Down The Rabbit Hole.
During the outbreak of covid-19 and the worldwide pandemic in early 2020, The Wong Janice started offering Virtual Cello Meditation Concerts to individuals all around the world to help cope with the lockdown and isolation. Her Online Cello Meditation Concert was mentioned in Forbes, Lonely Planet, ADWEEK, DailyMail and The Washington Post and she became a top-10 seller on Airbnb Online Experiences. Now she has been booked by more than 150 companies worldwide such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Adidas, Airbnb and Philips for virtual wellness and team-building events.
The Wong Janice currently has more than 50 million streams on Spotify.
